Yesterday was election day and, once again, there was no women presence in any of the major races. Some folks have studied why this is. It’s a thing that makes me go…hmmm. What should we be teaching our Go Girls! about political involvement? How should we be encouraging them to consider leadership in this way? Hmmm… Any thoughts?
But, although there was not a woman candidate who emerged from yesterday races, there was a woman we would like to celebrate. Chirlane McCray is the wife of the newly-elected mayor of New York City, Bill deBlasio. We celebrate her because she has the courage to be herself in the public eye. We celebrate her because she has not let labels define her or her family. We celebrate her because she has used her talents and skills as a writer and poet to affect change in communities.
Chirlane McCray is our Honorary Go Girl! of the day. Learn a bit more about her here.
